Trucker nearly clears escape ramp trying to control truck

    More than likely those big companies aren’t training drivers on those automatics.

    Wife did not receive training prior to the day she got into that drivers seat with her first load and a auto. That was where i came in. The auto we had was a good one for mountain work provided it was placed into manual mode. Otherwise it will choose the next higher gear constantly. And like that one driver said, away you go.

    I realized that robot trucks might not even know what that ramp was good for. Or even the brake pads were too hot. It could be applying all the way to the contents of it's air tanks and would not know it's faded other than the speed picking up. What if it chose a ordinary exit ramp instead? It's amazing the practical problems that come up.

    As far as maintaining the ramp, I don't ever see anyone doing so unless it is to tend to it after it is been used. The ramps I am familiar with back east are supposed to get deeper in gravel as well as towards vertical to get you stopped. Those are the best ones.
