I use it every day. But I'm local. I use Waze, Garmin, Thomas guide and Sigalert. I don't trust all the routes Waze gives, I only use it to get an idea where I'm going.

Google traffic and Waze traffic are one in the same. I suspect they share the same route generation engine, too

Also, setting aside the fact Google/Waze does not consider truck aspects [such as height] when routing, it does a pretty good job of looking at current traffic conditions, and routing in sensible ways around traffic, weighing estimated times to the minute. That said, sometimes the route option recommend might make more sense for an automobile than a heavy 70 foot rig. Also it will always assume you will drive the posted speed limits when choosing the fastest route which typically is not realistic for trucks so you need to consider this when viewing route options.

But I love using Google Maps to provide route options fast and accurately. Showing both estimated times and real miles. ... Much faster then fiddling with any GPS device that is not current with traffic or construction activity.

The added benefit with waze is you know where speed traps are. That and it gives you more details of the situation. Chats photos etc

CalTrans signed an agreement to share realtime traffic data with Waze earlier this year. You will see CalTrans adding sensors where they lack, or have stopped working as part of the agreement. The agreement did not include Google Traffic for whatever reason. http://www.dot.ca.gov/paffairs/pr/2016/prs/16pr033.html
