I start CDL training at the American Driver Training Academy in northern DE in less than 2 weeks. I applied for a local job since that's all I'm allowed to do until I turn 21, at Dot transportation (DTI). I know a lot of companies won't hire you until you're at least 22 or 23 and have previous experience.
I need advice on the specifics of a job listing so that I pick the right one. Currently browsing indeed and other sites. What other companies are hiring new grads in Delaware? Been studying for the major endorsements that I need for the past few days to get a head start.
What to look for in a job listing

You need to define what YOU need in money per week/month, time off, health insurance, schedule. The you need to decide which type of trucking you prefer or will do (dry van, reefer, flatbed, tanker) Don't work anywhere until you talk to drivers at the company you are considering. Either make the company put you in contact with current drivers or go to a truck stop and ask drivers for that company to describe the pay, schedule, benefits, time-off, (whatever else you want to know.
Every new CDL driver needs Tanker endorsement.

Here are my recommendations....for someone just starting out now:
- Avoid any job or account that delivers to any of the so-called "dollar" stores: Dollar General, Family Dollar, etc. Those jobs will chew you up and spit you back out, as a new driver. Leave those for drivers with 3+ years of experience.
- Avoid jobs that are hazmat tanker duty, until you get at least 2 years of experience elsewhere. Mistakes there are simply too expensive and/or dangerous. Get your rookie mistakes out of the way somewhere else.
- Avoid C R England.
- Go to Schneider only as a last resort (note: I'm a Schneider veteran).
- The CDL job market right now (and into the foreseeable future) for rookies is TOUGH. Keep the faith; don't get discouraged!!! It was tough for me a while ago -- and this was back when general freight volumes were reasonably good. You will likely have a tougher/longer hunt for your first gig. Others here will also be glad to offer help.

Another carrier that hires beginning drivers....with terminals inside the state of Deleware....is Foodliner:

This will be food-grade tanker duty (NOT hazmat). They may -- or may not -- be looking for more help when you finish with your CDL. Apply there anyway.

Being stuck in state, you might have to do dump truck. Which can lead to bigger work of same nature. Or maybe class B like straight truck delivery
