And one more thing before I finish my venting...
I hate this heavy loads to CA.... :angry1: Some are so heavy that I have to keep less than half tank of fuel.... :angry1:
And the places I go.... Like this one... second receiver in CA....
After seeing the location on Google, sent pictures to dispatcher and told him I wasn't going to go there.... No way.... not going to risk getting stuck and/or damaging equipment... We do go to places that trucks don't go... but that one is ABSOLUTELY NOT...
    place1.jpg

Some of the places are like junk yards, dumps, mud holes.... and in residential areas.... :biggrin_25523:
The yellow arrow points to the entrance.... :biggrin_2552: From one angle...

    place2.jpg

That's a dead end street with no room to turn around.... :biggrin_25523:

That is the entrance from the other angle...

    place3.jpg
So... first thing dispatcher did this morning was to immediately contact broker and broker said that receiver will unload at another location next to them.... a big parking lot... they will bring forklift and pallet jacks to the truck.... :biggrin_25519: That's better... :yes2557:

At CDL school we learned how to move tandems and 5th wheel to get legal... and regulations in each state, distance of king pin to center of rear axle and stuff like that.... I consider myself pretty good at guessing where I need to position the axles and 5th wheel to be legal but some loads are just not loaded right... and have to be rearranged... My company (Safety Lady) is very strict about us being legal all the time and I don't blame her... That's one of the reasons my company has one of the best safety records in the US.... And my safety record is impecable as well... I HATE PEOPLENET, hate the regulations and such but I HATE even more to get a violation..... not trying to be an outlaw or none of that.... :biggrin_25512:

Ohh... Yeah... Some CDL schools train folks only enough to pass the CDL test.... and charge A LOT of money....
My CDL school was a Community College... the BEST in the state of GA.... Program lasted 3 months... 5 days a week and sometimes Saturdays... from 7 am to 3 pm... 30 students maximum... 3 students per instructor.... A HUGE HUGE place... They also trained bus drivers and folks for the power company.... We were visited by folks from other companies (recruiters), ATA guys.... they didn't feel very comfortable with my questions and comments BTW.... :biggrin_25523:
We had 2 first weeks of classroom only, then 2 weeks practicing on the range and the rest was a combination of practicing on the range and driving... on the road, streets, highways, everywhere....
We learned how to read the Atlas book, how to calculate distances, how to work with paper logs and HOS... we watched lots of videos about defensive driving, safety, Hazmat, even cargo theft, and SOOOO MUCH MORE....
And because I qualified for grants, the whole thing cost me $100.00... Not kidding.... Including, DOT physical, books, and road test... :yes2557:
