Ok, so the latest update is that I have passed my test a week ago. i have all the endorsements, tankers, hazmat and doubles. I have my twic, no violations or accidents in 15 plus years.
I have been approved for Schnieder bulk and Magnum reefer.
So which one would you suggest and why?
I am located in Southern New Jersey, all the way down.
Thanks in advance and be safe out there.

Schneider bulk, because you would gain valuable tanker experience that would lead to top paying jobs.

You dont want reefer, long waits at cold storage warehouses and a noisy reefer vibrating the sleeper.

    In a hurry?
Only 2 options. You appear to be good for the important criteria. It is a drivers market. Even for new drivers.

Take some more time and make sure you are happy. It’s in your best interest to stick with that first job at least a year. Really helps

    tscottme and Redtwin Thank this.

Go tanker. Anybody can swing a door. But takes skills to fall off a catwalk

Agreed. In the LTL forum someone mentioned that UPS Freight was hurting for drivers in NJ. If you can get in, that is a company you can retire with.

    Linte_Loco Thanks this.

Not in a hurry as such, I have done my 360 hours at school. Just need to put that learning into practice. I have applied to a number of companies that Chinatown has informed me of. Unfortunately I live in the bowels of New Jersey, near Cape May, where even UPS dont deliver on a Saturday, so I applied to Trans-System inc and they cant help as there is no freight in my area to get me home on a regular basis. Suerior Carriers and another company will not entertain me because the school that I went to is not on thier approved list. It seems that most of the yards etc are next to the Walt Whitman bridge and Pennsylvania border, which is a couple of hours from here. There is very little in this area.
So I was just thankful that these 2 companies would pick me up so I can get my first year in and then move onto something either more local or regional, unless I liked the job then I would probably stay there, provided they treated me right.

Thanks for all of your suggestions, I was leaning more toward the tanker side. I had experience of automating a cement distribution plant in England some years ago. I am an Electrical/mechanical engineer by trade, but the reefers were not an issue as I also have refrigeration qualifications, and a string of letters after my name, but that is another story.

Very few, if any, companies will allow drivers to do any work on their equipment. Check the basics, but thats it. You dont want a $500K load of meat etc on your shoulders.
