There is no such thing as a recession-proof company. I know the question said industry, but you are not working for an industry you are working IN an industry. I'm not going to get deep into this issue. Just know that a company can fail for reasons other than slow or reduced sales. As a recession deepens at some point getting a job in any of these so-called recession-proof companies is almost impossible.
Here is another problem. Let's say you work for XYZ Logistics and carry food in your reefer. XYZ say has 1000 trucks. What's to stop a larger carrier like Crete or Swift from cutting XYZs throat and underbidding them? This throat-cutting happens even in a good economy. It will get MUCH worse in a deep recession! I think the best thing for a driver to do is stop job hopping and avoid accidents. Then if a position in a bad recession opens up you stand a great chance of getting it. -
