If I recall correctly, when this first started, the instructions said to keep the previous one on, to post the new ones next to it. I run local so I don’t post one, I don’t even post the Black and white “gross” decal.
Why do drivers keep IFTA stickers on truck for years?

I had mine next to a bumper sticker that said:
Officer I heard your wife is fast and loose
Can't understand why they pulled me around back a lot.blairandgretchen, Feedman and motocross25 Thank this. -
People do this stuff in Wisconsin for sure, whether it be the sticker on their passenger vehicle license plates or the stickers on their semi tractors. We like the pretty colors up here.

The reason is, your new stickers come in before the old one expires. Most people go ahead and put on the new stickers when they come in, but it’s not valid yet, so you have to keep the old one on until the end of the year. So you end up with at least 2 stickers on the truck. Drivers are lazy so they don’t remove the old one after it expires.
I think I’m right in saying that you have a 30 day grace period at the start of the new year before you must display your new sticker. Sometime in that 30 days I will take the old sticker off and apply the new one. Sometimes I will remove the old one, but if it’s stuck good I’ll just put the new one over the top of it. -
For those that never had a bingo card
least it’s not like having the old bingo stickers showing if you needed to buy fuel in that state.
MS had green/red one you had to buy fuel, one you didn’t. -
Some may see it as a badge of honor or years in business. X time with same ol truck.
With the 3 color rotation it’s easy to spot a single sticker that is expired. If it’s the wrong color it’s painfully obvious. However if there are many at a glance which one is current? Arkansas used to issue a new plate for trucks every year. One year would be yellow with black letters. The next was opposite. Expiration date was stamped right in the plate. As you drive by they see the proper color displayed and they were happy. So long as you didn’t get their undivided attention all was well. Just poor boys tryin to get by best they can. -
It’s also a violation. I was told once by a DOT officer to remove the old ones or get written up for it. Now I only display the current year. So is not having US in front of DOT I found out during another stop.
When they are bored they come up with all sorts of stuff. -

We have hundreds of trucks with the old stickers, and Noone is getting tickets.
gentleroger Thanks this. -
When the DOT inspector can't find anything to write you up for, there are these obscure regulations they can pull out of thin air to get you on.
nikmirbre Thanks this.
