How much you get paid to unload
-
Many years ago, I worked in a supermarket for 4 years, east coast, (1974 to 1978). I can remember the truck drivers bringing in swinging beef to the meat cutters. Some of those hind quarters weighed as much as 250 lbs.. The truck drivers often had to "chest" it, with both arms wrapped around the hind quarters to take it off the truck.
Those drivers were some very strong individuals. I do not know if any of today's truck drivers would haul swinging beef as they did back then.
At the time, those truck drivers were in the Teamsters union. I do not know if any of those Teamster union jobs still exist anymore.
God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!Last edited: Dec 12, 2013

If given the opportunity, would you be willing to haul swinging beef as some of the "old school" Teamster union drivers had done? -
I used to unload trucks for Walmart before I drove. Water and canned goods pallets were a #####. I think the heaviest I ever unloaded and drug out with a pallet jack was 3100 lbs.
I came off the road two months ago and deliver soda. I do have an electric pallet jack for my bulk stops, which is nice. Mainly though I dolly in cases of soda and energy drinks to corner stores.
I enjoy it. Pretty much paid to exercise. Plus I deliver in a college town so there is no shortage of cute girls working at the places I deliver!

I was delivering sodas to a Kmart but I had a sidebay trailer. Had to toss 100 cases of soda/water on the dock and then put them on the pallet once the dock got full. After that I also had to stock their shelves. I was on commission base pay so it was cheaper for the company to sent me instead a hourly driver with a liftgate or a regular box trailer.
