Hello fellow truckers... I am a wannabe trucker. I am currently attending a CDL school and I'm about to graduate in about a week. I have been contacted by numerous companies and have narrowed it down to Scheider because of the training they are known for. I'm not sure if joining their tanker division is the best way to go. Has anyone worked for Schneider tanker division out of Chicago? What should I expect as far as home time, pay, etc ? thanks!

You will do very well with sni bulk in Chicago....I've worked for them many years ago and it wasn't bad at all....you'll be based out of Gary oc....bulk division has a lot inbound and outbound tanker freight from chicago region...you'll make very good $$ and see chicago more often than you think.

Getting into chemical tanker is the way to go. Schneider Bulk is said to have a good training program. I'm not sure what other chemical tank companies will hire right out of school. Trimac maybe. Chinatown will be along and he can help you there. But going tanker in the long run will give you the opportunity to make good money with otr regional and local work. Especially in your area.

I wasted a decade hauling van/reefer freight before getting into tanks. I trained and spent my first few years at Schneider and could have started in bulk but opted for van freight due to just not knowing the benefits of bulk. Better pay, no downtime, and just plain easier pulling tanks. Schneider is a training company and no where to make a career but they can't be beat starting out as a new driver. Schneider bulk drivers are very knowledgeable and in my experience when I was starting out in bulk myself, many times I received helpful tips and pointers from Schneider bulk drivers.

Thanks for the reply Dna Mach. Based on your experience, would you say that I could make $10,000 more yearly doing tankers instead of intermodal at Schneider?

You should make more than intermodal. Idk the pay scale/home time with bulk but bulk is the way to go

Yes, an extra 10K is easily obtainable. 40 cpm in bulk is absolute rock bottom and I've never personally seen anybody pay that low but I have "heard" of a few. Tanker companies tend to also pay for things like holidays, any extra work, breakdown pay, things you aren't going to get with van/reefer companies without fighting for them.

Intermodel could work due to the regional/local nature of it but there is no future in it. You'll always be working long hours for little pay. With bulk the options are endless and the earning potential is much greater and comes much quicker.

Them bulk boys pulling in cash over here at Gary. Their local division is based out of here but good luck trying to get into local fresh out of school. But it's not impossible to get local quick with Schneider. I got local after 6 months but I am in the dry van division. Schneider is converting their fleet to automatics so be warned but don't be scared of the pumpkin patch. Amazing training here. Let's just say you WILL learn how to back up!

I have been pulling a tank with snbc since April. All but one week I have made over $1000. The lowest was $837.
You do run a lot to the east
