Could you receive points on your license if you got cited for following to close. A coworker was traveling through Kentucky and an officer pulled him over for following to close to the truck in front of him. Does he fight the ticket from Michigan where he is from? Will he get points on license if he pays?

I have heard people fighting those tickets and winning because the officer wrote 'following to close' instead of 'following too close'. The first one implies the driver had enough space but was just gaining on the vehicle in front. The second one is more accurate-

I love it when I hear of drivers getting tailgating tickets. They dont give out enough of them.

In SC the law reads following to close to the vehicle in front or you at a safe and prudent distance. How it's worded makes no difference. I did write a lot of those because that is generally the cause of the wreck it think the SC code if I remeber right is 56-5-2330 and is 4 pts.

So many drivers need to get a few of those tickets.

a buddy of mine got one in Indiana...cost 185 clams + 5 csa point...I don't know what he got on his license

I agree too many truckers follow too close and should be cited.
But what about the zillion or so 4-wheelers that think they're entitled to ride my bumper.
Never once have I seen a cop ticket one of them.
That ain't right.crankit2152, LoneCowboy and CanadianVaquero Thank this. -
Following too close is considered wreckless driving. The only thing worse is a DUI. You're pretty much finished if you get one. Your current employer might not fire you, but you will be limited in your job search.
